Biodiesel & Bioheat
What is BioDiesel?
Biodiesel is the name of a clean burning alternative
fuel, produced from domestic, renewable resources. Biodiesel
contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with
petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel blend. It can be used
in compression-ignition (diesel) engines with little or no modifications.
Biodiesel is simple to use, biodegradable, nontoxic, and essentially
free of sulfur and aromatics.
What is BioHEAT?
BioHeat is conventional heating oil containing biodiesel. The
heating oil must meet its specification, ASTM D 396 and the
biodiesel must meet its ASTM specification, ASTM D 6751, before
blending them together.
Why use BioHEAT and BioDiesel?
Biodiesel and BioHeat are better for the environment
because they are made from renewable resources and have lower
emissions compared to petroleum diesel. Both are less toxic
than table salt and biodegrade as fast as sugar. Since BioDiesel
and BioHeat are made in the USA from renewable resources such
as soybeans, their use decreases our dependence on foreign oil
and contributes to our own economy.
Genesee is currently selling B20 blend (ie 20% vegetable
oil). Why not higher?
"Higher blends will be coming in the future as the industry
does more long term testing." Right now industry experts
are recommending 20% or less.
How can I get the BioDiesel tax credit?
The credit is already reflected in the price you pay. It isn't
availible to consumers.
Are there equipment or tank modifications needed?
No. However, biodiesel has been shown to cleanse the heating
system, which can result in added maintenance costs and possibly
the need for a new tank.
Does it heat differently than regular heating oil?
BioHeat gives you the same warm and cozy feeling that regular
heating oil gives.
